About
Built by Kevin Champlin.
Senior software engineer. Twenty years shipping production systems. Lives in Gurnee, Illinois; spent years operating out of an office in La Salle. This site is the demo: every claim about frontier AI capability is being made by the system itself, with the receipts attached.
I started writing code in 1998. The first program I shipped was for a small business that did not need software the way the brochure said they did; they needed software that solved one specific painful problem. That distinction has shaped every system I have built since.
Today I run Champlin Enterprises, a software studio that builds custom systems for Fortune 100 and 500 clients and for local businesses in the Illinois Valley. Custom code, iOS and Android apps, AI integrations. The work is in production at companies whose names I cannot list here and at companies whose names you would not recognize. Both matter equally to me.
I am also a senior software engineer in the literal sense: I write the code, I deploy the systems, I respond to the alerts. I do not consult on what code other people should write. I build, ship, and stay accountable for what runs.
This site exists because the conversation about AI is conducted in vocabulary that does too much smuggling. Words travel. "Smart" smuggles in "wise." "Agentic" smuggles in "autonomous." "Knows" smuggles in "experiences." The site refuses to let the smuggling happen on the same screen as the meter. You watch the model do real things. You watch the bill increment. You read the failure cases honestly. You read the capability cases honestly. You leave with a clearer picture, and one less category error.
Where to go from here
Three doors.
Daily writing on AI, engineering, and what it is like to ship production code in 2026. The blog where I think out loud.
Custom code, mobile apps, AI integrations. Fortune 100/500 and local businesses. If you have a real problem and a real budget, talk to me.
The chat is the proof. The glossary is the spine. Ten free turns per UTC day, hard cap on the wallet, watch the meter run.

I read every email. Real-world AI problems, weird custom-code briefs, and "is this idea any good" all welcome. Sales pitches, less so.
